True to the mission and vision of our founders, the Barbara Chambers Children’s Center leadership strives to provide a welcoming and dynamic space for our community and children of all backgrounds.

The BCCC leadership arose from the ranks of the institution and combines long years of solid experience in teaching, management, and administration - with professional and relevant credentials. As BCCC continues on its path of improvement and expansion of facilities and programs, we want to thank our dedicated staff, committed parents and outside supporters without whom none of our successes would be possible.

Maribel Ventura-Torres - Executive Director

Maribel Ventura-Torres is the Executive Director of the Barbara Chambers Children’s Center (BCCC). Mrs. Ventura-Torres has been with BCCC for 33 years, initially working as a teacher and since 1991 as its director.

Over the last 2 decades Mrs. Ventura-Torres has led the expansion of BCCC’s main center and the opening of two satellite facilities to accommodate the demand for high quality bilingual ECE services in the city. Additionally, she has been instrumental in implementing new service offerings to children and families, including DC universal pre-K program. Under her supervision, all programs at BCCC have maintained NAEYC accreditation and have consistently attained the ‘Gold’ rating from the DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE).

Mrs. Ventura-Torres has fostered a strong partnership with the DC Office of Early Childhood Education and has been actively involved in educational initiatives, such as the implementation and funding of the Before and After school programs throughout the city. She also participated as a coach during the implementation of the city’s Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS), which was developed to assess the quality of early childhood programs and to provide coaching to teachers and directors citywide.

Mrs. Ventura-Torres holds a bachelor’s degree in Human Relations from Trinity University and has completed graduate coursework in Business Science and Management at Strayer University. She was born in El Salvador and has resided in the DC metro area since 1981.

Reina Argueta - Chief Administrator

Mrs. Reina Argueta is an accomplished Child Care Center Administrator with over three decades of experience in all facets of day-to-day non-profit institution management. She also has extensive experience in strategic planning and financing of programs and expansion projects. Her experience is complemented with a BS in Business Administration, and continuous training in finance, accounting, human resources management, and information technology.

Mrs. Argueta joined the BCCC in 1987, at a time when, due to serious financial hurdles, the survival of the center was in doubt. She took on the challenge, and with a steady hand and business-like vision, sorted the obstacles of those difficult years and paved the way for the purchase of the building and further expansion of BCCC facilities.

Mrs. Argueta was born in El Salvador and has lived in the DC metro area with her family, and a series of feline companions, since 1980.
